The Story!

We're proud to say that the rain didn't deter hard core Crampers! Those who came out on Friday managed to get some riding in before the rains came. Hats off to Cole, Randy, KK, Gary, Norma & family, Rob & Laura Riner & family, Robert "Bonehead" Jones and sons Mike and Steve, and all the others who braved the storm down at Pit Row Friday night and Saturday morning! Many thanks to Jack & Dee Huggins, Shawn Huggins, Mark Watson, Dru Phelps and Bill Hance for being on hand Friday and Saturday to help with the preparations! Although Saturday's ride was rained out for the most part, the cook-off went on as planned. We had 15 entries this year and all were winners! Freddie Hinds carried out his threat to take the Big Man down and seize the Chili Crown! RP graciously concurred that Freddie's chili was the best! Mike Hance won second place and Jason Gooch came in third, with Kevin Felle receiving an Honorable Mention for his Six Shooter Chili. Denise Upchurch ran off with the Bean Czar Title, and Fritz Wieghat took over as winner of the Mystery Category! Chef Reinhard of The Woodbine Hotel tied for second in the Mystery Category with Kevin Felle! In addition to his other awards, Kevin Felle retained control of the Best Dressed Tiara, but he had some serious competition from Tim Akers, who may have won if the judges had realized that the blue polyester bell-bottoms and a shirt that defies description were actually a "costume" and not his normal attire. Thanks to all the contestants and to those who brought the "sides"! All the food was great! Special thanks to this year's hard working Chili Judges, Bill Steitenroth, Rex Carr, Jarred Dreher and Bill Hance, and to their assistants, Dru Phelps and Dee Huggins! Many, many thanks to Greg Morris for the use of the dozer! And to all those who came out despite the weather from Houston, Dallas, Amarillo and beyond, thanks for making the Fourth Annual Team Cramp Ride & Chili Cook-Off a success!
